The Healing benefits of meditation

Stress has quickly become one of the major causes of chronic disease in the world today. Many people are suffering from health ailments, burnout and mental health challenges due to chronic stress. We have all heard of the popular term “self-care” and have had our share at determining what this means for our lives. Often times are attempts at caring for ourselves are futile as they are rooted in superficial ways of being. This is where meditation comes in. Meditation is one of the best tools we have for managing chronic stress and burnout, releasing accumulated stress, increasing awareness to positive experiences and countering the brain’s negativity bias. When establishing a truly effective self-care routine, meditation is essential for sustained wellness.

Establishing a regular meditation practice can yield the following benefits:

  • decreased anxiety, depression and insomnia

  • increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA

  • reduced production of “stress hormones”, including cortisol and adrenaline

  • decreased blood pressure and hypertension

  • lowered cholesterol levels

  • improved immune function

  • more efficient use of oxygen in the body

  • improves ability to focus, memory and ability to learn
